Summer Holidays at The New Hub
Weekdays 10-6pm, Saturday 12-5pm.
Free Internet everyday, guitar hero, basketball hoops, pool tables, ping pong,
laser strike and more. The New Hub is a safe and fun place for Nelson’s
youth. Our staff are fully trained and police-vetted. Don’t hesitate to
call Matt, Di, Steve, Tristan, Jasmine or Maia if you have any questions.
Workshops this year are designed to help young people be fit, active, healthy,
happy and safe. As well as the advertised workshops we will have a few surprises
from week to week. We hope you enjoy what we have to offer. Many of the workshops
have limited spaces. It is important that you book for these workshops so that
we are able to cater for you.
Wednesday 15 December
Pizza making with Stefano’s 1.30-4pm. Learn how to turn dough into a
beautiful pizza. Have a go at spinning and stretching your own pizza base. Lots
of fun, and yummy. Includes lunch. Price: Gold coin donation
Bouncy Castle 11am-5pm. Come and have a bounce, jump, or tumble on the big
bouncy castle. No shoes please! Price: Free
Evening Workshop 6.30-8.30pm
Simulate 2 Educate special seminar Part 1. How to keep you and your family safe
in the world of IT, social networking and internet use. You must not miss this
opportunity to safeguard employment opportunities and reputations of your family
and friends.
Participants are encouraged through a variety of interactive activities to protect
their identities, and consider the effects of poor decisions on family, friends
and society as a whole. This module is run over 2 x two hour blocks, the following
block is Thursday the 16th. Bookings are essential. Price: Gold coin donation
(more encouraged if you are able). Includes free refreshments. Young people
and adults welcome.

Beauty Busters 10.30-1pm.
Come in and learn how to style your hair and get to looking even cooler than
you are already. Bring your own curlers, straighteners, hair product. Price:

Unicycling 1.30-4pm. Give the one-wheeled version of a bike a shot. Not as
easy as it looks but easier than you think. Price: Free
Simulate 2 Educate special seminar part 2 6.30-8.30pm. How to keep you and
your family safe in the world of IT, social networking and internet use. The
second and final part of the module. Bookings are essential. Price: Gold coin
donation (more encouraged if you are able). Includes free refreshments. Participants

Friday 17th December
Dodgeball 10.30-1pm. Finally, a state-sanctioned way to burn off energy. Come
chuck loads of balls at your friends, or even the occasional youth worker. Price:

T-shirt Printing 1.30-4pm. Design a print for a T-shirt and get it printed on
–permanently. Price: Gold coin donation, bring your own T-shirt (BYOT).
Saturday 18 December
Jammin 1.30-4pm. Bring in your musical instruments and rock out, or just have
a mellow jam with some other musos. Beginners 1.30-2.40. More experienced players
2.50-4pm. Book ahead if you want to use one of our instruments. Price: Free,
or gold coin donation if borrowing gear. We have amps, bass, electric and acoustic
guitars, even a drum kit and bongos.
Monday 20 December
Basketball 10.30-1pm. Practice and 3 a side competition. Bring your own team
or come along and we’ll sign you up to one. Price: Free.
Nails workshop 1.30pm-4pm. Come and get your nails looking flash. With our
resident nail expert Jasmine. Price: Gold coin donation
Tuesday 21st December
Sushi day 10.30-1pm. Learn how to make some awesome sushi rolls (Makizushi)
and eat them too. Price: Gold coin donation, includes lunch.
Block towers 1.30-4pm. Build some sky scrapers using only boxes and your architectural
skills. Tallest and most impressive towers win prizes. Price: Free
Wednesday 22 December
Cupcakes 10.30-1pm. Bake, design and decorate the coolest cupcakes. Plus, you
get to have your cake and eat it too. Bring a box for take away. Price: Gold
coin donation.
Pool Comp 1.30-4pm. Pot the lot. Prizes for the best effort. Price: Free
Thursday 23rd December
Obstacle Course 10.30-1pm. Can you make it through Steve’s gauntlet?
Prizes for fastest through, and most spectacular moves. Price: Free.
Christmas Cookies 1.30pm-4pm. Make some biscuit dough, cut into cool shapes,
bake, cool and decorate however you want to. Eat some of them, but bring a container
to take some home for the fam. Price: Free
Friday 24th December to Tuesday 4th January
Break for Xmas and New Years. Join us at the Hub Youth Zone, the Red Square,
end of Trafalgar Street on New Year’s Eve
Wednesday 5th January
Opshop to Catwalk. 10.30-4pm. Go op-shopping for some clothes, come back and
use your skills and our sewing machines and spare fabric to turn your finds
into fashion. Price: Free. Bring $5 (or more if you wish) for Op-Shop purchases.
Thursday 6th January
Paper darts 10.30-1pm. Construct some old school paper darts and fly them.
Prizes for distance and accuracy, sorry, no crumpled paper balls accepted. Price:

Pool Shark 1.30-4pm. Learn how to play pool like a pro with our Pool Shark
Dev. Dev will show you tricks of the trade and how to improve your game. Price:

Drum and Percussion workshop 10.30-1pm. Roger will be in to teach and lead
a drum percussion session. Bring your own drums if you have them, or you can
use some of ours (first in first served). Price: Free
Cheapskates Mini Skate Comp. Cheapskates are supporting our own little skate
comp. Ramp and street categories, lots of cool prizes and street cred on offer.

Iceblock making 12noon onward. Make some iceblocks and freeze them for late
in the day when it gets hot. Price: Free

Photography Scavenger Hunt (10.30-1pm). Choose, print and mount your favourite
shots (1.30-4pm). Prizes for the best shots and presentation, originality encouraged.

Thursday 13th January
Coffee making 10.30-1pm. Learn how to make a flat white, latte, mochaccino,
hot chocolate, or even a strong short black. Price: Gold coin donation
Hip Hop Class 1.30-4pm. Come in and learn how to dance hip hop style, or just
hone your skills. With the Fargher Dance Academy. Price: Free
Friday 14th January
Kite making 10.30-1pm. Learn how to make your own kite to fly now and when
the wind picks up in spring time. Price: Free
Break Dance Invitational 1.30-4pm. Get together with a mate and join our break

Retro fashion afternoon 1.30pm-4pm. Come dressed up and retro-fied, 70s, 80s
or even 90s. Prizes for coolest costumes and best attitudes. Guess what decade

Saturday 22nd January
Unihoc 10.30-1pm. Play some indoor hockey. We’ll have a bit of a practice
first and then some games.
Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th. The New Hub will be open for Drop In, but we won’t
be running workshops because some of our staff will be in training. Thanks for
your understanding.
Wednesday 26th January
4 a side Soccer 10.30-1pm. Practice and competition. Form your own team of
four players, or come along and we’ll find a team for you.
Thursday 27th January
How to get a job 10.30-1pm. A workshop that will help you find work by covering
the essentials such as CVs, how to dress, and how to sell what you have to offer.
